Nuetering campaign.
2008-03-19
In february there came another team over from the Worldwide Veterinary Service to do a nuetering campaign on the island Samos.

This time we had Matt, Ruth and Stavros over. It was great to have them they helped a lot of animals!

First transport 2008, a big success!
2008-03-19
In february the first transport of this year took place.

A fully loaded van went to Samos with Farida and Erni.

The way up was filled with rain and fog but they arrived safely after for days at the port of Samos.

Everything was unloaded and it was unbelievable how many good things came out of the van, medicine, dog food, kennels, benches, towels, blankets toys and so on.

After everything was unloaded it was time for a busy week on the shelter and in the house, because there were vets from the WVS to do a neutering program.

And then the day came to go back to Germany and Holland again with a van full with dogs on their way to a happy life!

You can all ready read about some of them in the succes stories section.

It was a long but fulfilling trip, and a happy end for all the dogs!

We would like to thank Danish Friends of Animals who made this trip possible!

Update last trip in 2007
2007-12-10
The last trip of this year was a big succes! A lot of food and goods for the animals was brought to Samos by Peter and Farida.

With some troubles one the way like boats that didn't leave because of the storms the finally arrived safe two days later than planned...

On the way back they took dogs to Holland and Germany for rehoming.

In Germany the dogs experienced snow, some did for the first time in their lives!

It all worked out fine!

The roof is finished!
2007-11-19
The big roof in the first field is finished! First it had a wooden construction that after some years didn't function as good as we wanted it it do.

So it was decided as soon there was money available there would come a new roof with a steal construction.

Just look at the result!

The dogs will have shade in the hot summer months and shelter for rain in the cold and rainy winter months!

Last trip in 2007
2007-11-08
Gutersloh 11:30.

The last trip of this year sponsored by samos-hilfe.

Again the van is fully loaded with food, blankets, foodbowls and dogbaskets.

We wish Farida and Peter a good journey!

Rebuilding the roof.
2007-10-31
The roof on the first field was in quite a bad condition, the wood was chewed by some of the dogs and it was leaking at some points.

so it was decided that as soon there was money available for this it would be taken down and rebuild with a steal construction.

This is the result so far.

And the neutering of the strays of samos continues.
2007-10-31
Kim a vet who volunteered here before came for another 5 days to do spaying and neutering on the Samos strays. She managed to help a lot of animals a total of 47 and not only spaying but also was able to help some animals by removing tumours.

Thanks a lot Kim hope to see you again!

Last trainingtrip of this summer
2007-09-12
The vets from WVS will leave the island tomarrow after another succesfull trainingtrip, the fresh graduates gained a lot of confidence and their skills improved very much.
But not only did they learn a lot also they helped many animals.
A lot of straycats are nuetered now with the catch nueter release program.
The catcatchers (donated by Christel Weigel)used very often and are very effective for the wild straycats.
Without it it would be impossible to catch some of these cats.
Thank you WVS and all the teams who came to Samos this year! Hope to meet you again.

More trainingtrips.
2007-08-25
This year the Worldwide Veterinarian Service will send out two more training trips to do a neutering campaign. This benefits both the students and the animals on the island:

Two very expierienced vets, four freshly graduated ones and two nurses come over for a week to do as many spaying as possible on cats and dogs. This way the graduates gain a lot of experience and a lot of the animals get helped.
It is a great formula!

Improving the kennels
2007-05-28
The floors from a lot of the kennels were in a very bad condition which made it hard to clean them properly, so it was decided to tile the floors with special tiles which are not slippery for the dogs and easy to keep clean and hygienic. It is a lot of work but 3 kennels have been done all ready.

Constructing and painting
2007-05-28
Because there is always some building project going on on the shelter there are always things to paint.Luckily we never have a shortage on paint because we get it al donated by a dutch painters company.Schildersbedrijf Ruud en Jacqueline van Etten in Wognum.
Thank you Ruud en Jacqueline for al the paint!

Neutering campaign continues
2007-04-13
We had vets over again on the end of March and the beginning of April. We are very happy to inform about the vets who has last visited us to help to solve the stray problem on the island. We believe the only long term solution is to spay and nueter as many strays as possible.

The vets worked really hard and were able to help a lot of animals.

We would like to thank the vets and the Worldwide Veterinary Service for all their effords.

Some animal friends in England who had visited our shelter had the idea to organize a sponsorship walk for us.
This was very successfull, and they ended up with a ton of dog food, medicine and toys for our dogs.
Tom from Animal Care Samos Holland went to visit them and pick up all the lot.
We say a big Thank you! for this great effort.
